FOR SHOOTERS

WAFGA is a club for licensed shooters who want to develop and use skills and knowledge about hunting and shooting for food and pest control.  The club negotiates access to properties for members.

We set high standards of skill, knowledge and behaviour for our members and provide opportunity to acquire the relevant knowledge and skill.  Members must hold what is commonly known as an “open” WA firearms licence for the firearm used to participate in Club events. 

A WAFGA shooting team has an experienced Team Leader and participants have the relevant club qualifications.  When making up a Team we mix the less experienced with the more experienced shooters as part of our skill development.

Marksmanship is an important skill to ensure a humane kill.  WAFGA provides members access to a shooting property where members may practice shooting skills, ensure their firearm and ammunition is accurate or just have a fun shoot.

When it is consistent with the objectives of the property owner, members are encouraged to shoot for meat.  We conduct field dressing and butchery demonstrations.

WAFGA provides personal accident and public liability insurance for its members during participation in Club activities and does not permit the use of muzzle breaks in a WAFGA event.

It is a strict Club rule that members will not use WAFGA property contacts or introductions to obtain access to a property on a personal or none club basis.  The Club’s written Constitution is available via on request.  We also have a comprehensive set of By-Laws covering our procedures that ensures uniformity and a safe and professional team.

FOR PROPERTY MANAGERS

WAFGA has an established record of conducting efficient and effective pest bird and feral animal control across most of W.A. from the Pilbara south & east to the Goldfields for State & Local Govt, farmers, pastoralists, fruit growers.  The standards we set and assessment procedures for members are intended to maintain and enhance our reputation.

Our primary purpose is to negotiate and obtain access to properties for hunting and shooting of pest feral animals by our members.  Central to that purpose is being able to provide a soundly based assurance that our activities will be conducted safely, without drama or unintended consequences, and in a manner that is consistent with rural community norms.  WAFGA has long experienced Team Leaders and provides training and guidance to less experienced members so that we can and do give that assurance.  We are able to provide references from property managers who have used our help.

Because we have sufficient members we can provide a long term program to achieve significant reductions in a pest animal population.  At the same time, our structure of operating in teams under the control of a Team Leader means that the property manager only needs to discuss issues with one person.

Our Team Leader will seek to discuss issues such as accommodation or camping, any special precautions required, taking of meat from shot animals, disposal of carcasses and the like.

In the absence of specific agreement our Team Leader will contact the property owner on arrival and before departure.

We also have a reporting framework to confirm with stakeholders & landholders the specific impact that each visit achieves.  

WAFGA members have liability insurance whilst engaged on club activities and are equipped with First Aid kits, GPS, UHF and for where mobile coverage might be limited Satellite Phones and PLBs. We also do a full Job Safety Analysis with a shoot plan for each property we visit.  Respect, safety and communication are paramount to our reputation and your piece of mind.
